How to hire a tradesperson

Hiring a plumber, electrician, cleaner or handyman shouldn’t mean days of waiting on quote forms. Here’s a short checklist that works whether you use TradeBridge or not.

1. Define the job

Be specific: what’s broken, where it is, when you need it, and photos if helpful. Clear briefs get clearer quotes.

2. Browse people who are actually nearby

On TradeBridge you set your area and swipe local profiles. Filter by trade and distance so you’re not comparing people who can’t realistically take the job.

3. Match before you chat

Mutual match means both sides opted in. That cuts spam and raises the chance the conversation is serious.

4. Agree scope and money in writing

5. Check the right credentials

Not every listing is verified. Look for the Verified badge on TradeBridge when checks are complete. For gas work use Gas Safe; for electrical work look for schemes such as NICEIC or equivalent. See also how to avoid rogue traders.
